Meeting postponed

The cover art meeting was postponed for reasons not revealed to me, so at the moment I still have no idea about what artist they are looking at or which scene they will illustrate. I'll let you know when I have any new info.

Back to work on book two. More soon.

You've hit upon one of the problems with author/publisher relations. They're dealing with dozens of authors and many books at the same time. We're only dealing with one publisher. They can go a week or two without contacting us, while we're hanging out for the next life-changing step in the path to publication.
I'll often reply to emails from my publisher within minutes, and it's usually several days before I get another message. That's not a complaint, they're dealing with things at the pace they need to. It's just that the quiet times in between are nerve-wracking.
As writers we're over-the-moon excited about being published, but the process is a long, excruciatingly slow one!

My editor has been pretty good as far as responding quickly to my questions. I get a reply either the same day or the following day at the latest. Of course, so far I haven't bombarded her with too many questions, so we'll see how this holds up once the process heats up.

As far as the process being long and slow, I couldn't agree more!

I had a rapid exchange of emails with the promotions manager today, culminating in an invite to coffee tomorrow. They do reply quickly when it's needed, what I was trying to say was that I'm sitting here with a trigger-reflex on any and all missives from the publisher, whereas they usually don't need to reply instantaneously.
They invited me to write my own press release yesterday... I don't bug them so much that they're trying to find me work. Honest!

I get what you're saying. You are also a lot further along in the process than I am. I'm still 11 months from publication. I'm sure as I get closer to the "big day" I'll be bugging them more and more.

That's great that you got a face-to-face invite with your promotions manager. I'll be heading up to New York sometime this summer, but I'm about four hours away, so an impromptu lunch isn't really a possibility....

They just brought the publication of my book forward from November to September. We're running two months ahead of schedule ;-)
On the down side, they'll probably expect me to work just as much & just as fast on the second.
Hey, I'm not complaining. I'd go for release tomorrow if I could.

That's great, Simon. Good luck. I've still got an 11 month road ahead of me.

How did your meeting with the promotions manager go?

I stuck a bit on my blog about it - I don't want to hijack yours!
